Photo albums at http://community.webshots.com/album/266330424awSIzJ show the east end of Dauphin Island, where the old Air Force Station was located, fared quite well. Large areas of standing water are seen, but all remaining buildings of the AFS (now Estuarium and USCG Sta.) plus neighboring Ft. Gaines are all still standing.
The west end of Dauphin Island is another story!
East end of Dauphin Island after Hurricane 'Katrina,' showing the Estuarium, the U.S. Coast Guard Station, & Fort Gaines, still with large areas of standing water nearby, especially to the west and southwest of the ex-Air Force Station. As seen, the buildings and other structures all survived the storm.
